五氯酚(PCP)及其钠盐用途十分广泛。工业上在木材防腐、油漆、制革、造纸等行业沿用已久。农业上用于杀虫、除草。卫生上用于杀菌防霉,目前主要用于杀灭钉螺和坠实螺(血吸虫中间宿主)。由此带来对环境的污染和对人体健康产生危害。五氯酚具有强烈的刺激性嗅觉和味觉,属于剧毒化学品,长期饮用含五氯酚的水可引起头昏、出疹、皮肤痰痒、贫血及各种神经系统疾病，过量摄入体内时会出现急性中毒症状，出现腹泻和口疮等， wHo的《饮用水水质准则》(1998)中五氯酚的标准值为0. 009mg/L。目前PCP的检测方法主要有分光光度法、气相色谱法(GC ) tz. a)和高压液相色谱法(HPLC)闭。分光光度法测定灵敏度较低，逐渐被Gc和HPLC法所替代。
