氯乙酰氯作为酰化剂广泛用于药物和农药的合成。酰氯的分析方法之一是以氨或胺与酰氯反应生成酰胺和酸,从而测得酰氯的含量(Ind Eng Chem,Anal ed 1946,18:444)。另有以醇与酰氯反应生成酯和酸的分析方法(Analyst 1953,78:675)较前法为优,但发现,该法有较大误差。原因是氯乙酰氯和醇酯化时反应激烈,部分氯化氢与氯乙酰氯易于逸出,致使分析结果偏低。
