目前，双氧水的生产大多使用蒽醌法，该法以2-乙基蒽醌(EAQ)为载体，以重芳烃(AH)及磷酸三辛酯(TOP)为混合溶剂，配制成具有一定组成的溶液，称为工作液。将该溶液通入装有触媒的氢化塔中，在一定的温度和压力下通入氢气进行氢化，得到相应的2-乙基氢蒽醌(HEAQ)溶液，用空气中的氧气对它进行氧化。溶液中的2-乙基氢蒽醌(HEAQ)恢复成原来的2-乙基蒽醌(EAQ)，同时生成过氧化氢。用脱盐水萃取生成的过氧化氢，得到双氧水。经脱盐水萃取后的工作液经过处理返回氢化工序进行下一次循环。工作液在氢化过程中会有部分2-乙基蒽醌(EAQ)生成四氢-2-乙基氢蒽醌(H4EAQ)，它也可反复氧化，氢化生成过氧化氢。除了上述主反应外，工作液中还有许多副反应发生。因此工作液中各组分的含量多少将会影响双氧水的产量，以及工艺系统的稳定运行。在工艺生产中要及时掌握工作液组分的变化情况，正确指导生产。
